Crash Kills 2 Collin County Teenagers
COLLIN COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - Students at two Collin County high schools are mourning the loss of two of their own tonight. A red Mazda Speed 3 packed with seven people rolled over Sunday, killing Cody Hensley, 17 and Stephen Chaney, 17. Five other passengers were hurt in the crash. The Princeton Police Department said their injuries range from minor to critical condition.
"Anytime a life is lost, it is tragic, but it really hits hard when it impacts so many members of our community and it involves the young adults who had their lives in front of them," said Princeton Chief of Police, James Waters.
Police said it happened at the intersection of Monte Carlo and Florence Drive. The driver of the car, Joshua Bartlett, 19, survived. Although there were seven people in the car, there were only seat belts for five people.
Friends of the crash victims quickly used social media to spread the word about the tragic accident.
Students at McKinney North High School are using the hashtag #CamoForCody in honor of the football player's love of camouflage clothing. A vigil will be held for the teen in the school's parking lot (by the tennis courts) Monday at 8 p.m.
