IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) - A pickup truck crash early Friday left one person dead, another person injured, and shut down part of a major North Texas highway. The incident took place at around 4:00 a.m. in the westbound lanes of the LBJ Freeway, near MacArthur Boulevard in Irving.

The vehicle traveled off of the highway and into a concrete bridge pillar.

According to a police official, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger inside of the truck was sleeping at the time of the incident. He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, but details have not been released. Authorities have not provided the names of the victims.

There were no skid marks along the road, police added, indicating no attempt by the driver to prevent the truck from crashing into the pillar. Officials are not yet sure why the driver left the freeway. That is still under investigation.

Traffic along the westbound lanes of the LBJ Freeway early Friday was diverted off to Las Colinas Boulevard and the President George Bush Turnpike. Two lanes have since been opened. There has been no word about how long investigators will be at the scene, or when the crash will be cleared. Check the traffic map for alternate routes.
