2 Seriously Hurt In Crash Involving Amtrak Train And Vehicle In Fort Worth
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - An Amtrak train heading from Los Angeles to Chicago hit a car crossing the tracks in Fort Worth shortly before 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the 1300 block of W. Bewick.
Investigators at the scene said the northbound Amtrak Texas Eagle train 22 hit a car crossing the track, dragging the car about a quarter of a mile.
The Fort Worth Fire Department tweeted two people have serious injuries.
They had to be extricated from the car and are said to be in critical condition at a hospital.
The train had 45 passengers and six crew members on board. No one on the train was hurt.
"This is a critical reminder that it takes a full mile for a train to stop and about the importance of exercising caution around railroad tracks and crossings. Amtrak continues to work closely with Operation Lifesaver to communicate these dangers," an Amtrak spokesperson said in an email to CBS 11.
