Craig Watkins Narrowly Wins D.A. Race
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins outlasted Republican challenger Danny Clancy in an extremely tight race that lasted into the early hours Wednesday.
After all 737 precincts reported, Watkins took the race with 50.64 percent of the votes to Clancy's 49.36 percent. About 4,000 votes separated the two men.
After early voting numbers in the county were released, Clancy held about a 4,000 vote lead over Watkins. That lead remained until about 10:25 p.m., when Dallas County voting officials revealed that Watkins had snuck past Clancy. The Republican challenger conceded just after midnight.
In another close race that lasted into the evening, Democrat Clay Jenkins won the Dallas County judge race with 49.41 percent of the vote compared to Republican Wade Emmert's 47.11 percent. About 9,000 votes separated the two men.
