CPS Investigator Charged With Sexual Assault Of A Child

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A Child Protective Services investigator is behind bars today, charged with sexual assault of a child.

Nicholas Santos has been a Texas CPS investigator since 2006, according to agency spokeswoman Melissa Gonzalez.

Dallas County Jail records show Santos was arrested on March 4 by Cedar Hill police. Gonzalez says CPS has suspended Santos from his job.

In a statement emailed to CBS 11, she said, "We are conducting an internal investigation. If we determine that these criminal charges are true, he will be fired immediately. There is no place in Child Protective Services for employees who betray the public's trust, or who take advantage of young people we are supposed to protect."

The agency says it doesn't know how he made contact with the child and it does not appear to be someone he was investigating.

Neighbors said they feel betrayed and shocked by the accusations.

"That is scary to have someone around kids a lot; to even think to do something like that, that's mind-boggling," said neighbor Tangla Sparks.

Santos remains jailed in Dallas Tuesday night. His roommate said he only met the man a few months ago and that he had no idea about the case. He did say that investigators took several of Santos's computers when they arrested him.
