Coyote Drive-In Opens In Heart Of Downtown Fort Worth

FORT WORTH (KRLD) -- When's the last time you went to a drive in? One is opening up tonight in Fort Worth.

The Coyote Drive-In sits on 20 acres in the southern section of downtown Fort Worth on 4th Street, near the Trinity River. It can accommodate up to 1,300 cars and 4,000 people. The Coyote features three large screens, a beer garden, and a play ground.

Brady Wood is one of the people behind the Coyote, which he says is the result of a year and a half of planning, design and construction.

"I didn't get a chance to go to drive-ins when I was a kid, but I have been going to the one in Ennis, The Galaxy. It's so much fun and made us think that it would be great to have one closer to home."

Gone are the speaker boxes -- Wood says that patrons will tune in to the audio track of the films using their FM radio.

A major component of the project is a public-private partnership with the Tarrant Regional Water District, which owns the land.

"It is located in the hear of downtown Fort Worth, so it is inevitable that one day, this property will be developed," says Wood. "When it is, the screens will come down, but the beer garden and playground will stay forever. It's a win-win. Fort Worth will always have a great park."

For now, people can enjoy watching a movie under the stars -- and double features at that. The $8 admission to the Coyote Drive-In includes two first-run features. This weekend, "Iron Man 3" is playing, along with "The Great Gatsby."
