Cowboys Wrap Camp's 1st Week With Scrimmage
OXNARD, Calif. (AP) - Tony Romo, DeMarco Murray and the Dallas Cowboys wrapped up their first week of training camp with a scrimmage.
The controlled session Sunday came exactly one month before the Cowboys play their season opener Sept. 5 at the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants. A crowd of about 9,000 fans attended.
With 18 players injured and not playing, the scrimmage was more situational work for the starters, including red zone and two-minute drills.
Murray had several strong runs and a nice leaping catch against linebacker Sean Lee during a two-minute drill. Murray led the Cowboys in rushing as a rookie last season while missing the last three games because of a broken right ankle.
Murray says players had a "little more juice" and it was good to compete hard.
