Cowboys Want Better Intensity And Health Today

OXNARD, CA (105.3 THE FAN) - The Cowboys' intensity level needs to be raised. But that might be a challenge in today's second of two days' workouts against the Rams because the Cowboys' injury level is being raised.

"We're three weeks into (training camp) and you have to be smart,'' Cowboys COO Stephen Jones said. "We have to make sure all of these guys are at their best when the (season-opener and the) Giants roll around.''

On defense, Dallas performed without Tyrone Crawford, Nick Hayden, Rolando McClain, Anthony Hitchens, Brandon Carr, Orlando Scandrick, Byron Jones and eventually Barry Church.

Jones' shoulder is the most immediate concern. The MRI was negative but he's nevertheless being sent for a second medical opinion.

On offense, guard Ron Leary and left tackle Tyron Smith were missing from the O-line. And receiver Dez Bryant sat with his hamstring strain — though "sat'' isn't quite the right word, as he was so incensed by any failure from his receiving mates that he angrily vowed to enter practice today (against the wishes of his bosses) to seek revenge.

But there is no plan for Dez to participate until next week. And QB Tony Romo might be among the absent today as part of a rest plan — no injury there.

"It was good work,'' tight end Jason Witten. "It's always good to practice against another team. But it needs to be better.''
Today, maybe it will be better … and eventually, it figures to be healthier.
