Cowboys VP Stephen Jones Talks NFL Draft
DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) -- Dallas Cowboys Vice President Stephen Jones joined 105.3 The Fan's Elf & Slater on Tuesday to discuss the team's off-season and the 2013 NFL draft, which begins in just eight days.
Despite the recent 6-year extension signed by QB Tony Romo, Jones did not rule out the possibility of drafting a quarterback.
"I think it's all opportunity. If you see the right guy is there when it's your turn to pick, you certainly have to look at it," said Jones. "We did it with Stephen McGee three or four years ago, and obviously that was when Tony was even younger."

Most observers agree that the Cowboys, who struggled to consistently run the ball and protect Romo, are in need of upgrades along the offensive line. Others believe the defensive line and safety position could also be addressed in the early rounds of the draft. But would the Cowboys draft a safety with the 18th overall pick?
"You certainly could rationalize why a safety might help you there, but it certainly doesn't mean that we would take one," said Jones. "At the end of the day, if we start pushing our board to take care of need rather than take care of who is the best player and who is going to help us win football games next year, then we need to keep our eyes wide open."
While the draft will likely infuse young talent onto the Cowboys roster, Jones believes the biggest upgrade could come from players recovering from injury.
"I think the thing that excites me most are the players on the team and the prospect of having a healthy football team," said Jones. "Defensively, two of our better players -- Sean Lee and Bruce Carter -- missed a significant amount of time...and DeMarcus Ware, for the most part, played hurt. That gives you reason to be excited."
