Cowboys To Bring WR Dezmon Briscoe To Camp
IRVING, Texas (105.3 THE FAN) - Young veteran receiver Dezmon Briscoe is joining the Dallas Cowboys just in time for the team's Tuesday departure for training camp in Oxnard. He's part of a suddenly deep group of receivers led by Pro Bowler Dez Bryant but is highly-thought-of enough to force the release of rookie defensive tackle Chris Whaley, the Texas product who had been a possible year-long "redshirt" candidate due to injury. (Whaley could be re-signed later by Dallas.)
Briscoe, a product of Cedar Hill High and the University of Kansas, was a 2010 sixth-round NFL draft pick of the Bengals. Later that year he landed in Tampa Bay.
The at 6-2, 210-pounder has since been with the Redskins, but he hasn't played in a regular season game since 2012 (as he was IR'ed in Washington last year).
Briscoe's career numbers: 43 catches for 502 yards and seven touchdowns in 25 games. The former Kansas Jayhawk missed last season
In other Valley Ranch news: linebacker Justin Durantreports via Twitter that Jason Witten's plan to have Cowboys players undergo their pre-camp conditioning drill in Texas on Monday rather than in the cool of Oxnard later in the week was a success.
"Everybody passed the conditioning test today," Durant tweeted. "Boys put in work during the break."
