Cowboys Stun Giants
DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) - The Jason Garrett Naysayer Society is not going to have a good week. The Cowboys put a shocking, lights out effort on the field against the Giants and came away with a 33-20 win. Nobody expected this. Nobody.
The Cowboys forced three turnovers on the day, and came up with several big plays, none bigger than Brian McCann's 101 yard interception return for a touchdown which swung the game 14 points as the Giants were inside the five yard line at the time.
That pick put the Cowboys up 16-3, instead of allowing a touchdown that would have put the Giants up 10-9. Balls seemingly bounced the Cowboys way for once. From a called back Hakeem Nicks touchdown because of a holding call, to a horrible snap after the holding penalty, which gave Dallas the ball back after Anthony Spencer recovered it.
Jason Garrett opened up the offense. Deep balls early to Dez Bryant and Miles Austin and a 71 yard touchdown to Felix Jones on a catch and run play.
And Mike Jenkins forced a fumble. Repeat. Mike Jenkins forced a fumble before leaving the game for good in the second quarter with a neck injury. Kitna ended his day/night with 327 yards and 3 TD passes on 13/22 throwing.
Dez? 3/104 and an incredible touchdown reception. He also returned kickoffs and was a major force.
It is only a 2-7 record, but it is a far cry from the many blowout predictions. And for a week, the giggling about Jason Garrett's off the field changes will have to be shelved. This was the shot in the arm the Cowboys needed to feel good for the first time since the Houston win in week 2. The plane ride home should be nice for the first time in a long time.
