Cowboys Sign Former Giants DT Marvin Austin
IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) -- The Dallas Cowboys continued their search for depth on the defensive line on Monday, signing former second-round pick of the New York Giants, Marvin Austin.
The Cowboys placed defensive end Edgar Jones (groin) on injured reserve to open a roster spot.
Austin missed his rookie season of 2011 after tearing his pectoral muscle. He appeared in just eight games in 2012, collecting five tackles. The Giants released Austin after the final preseason game of 2013.
The former North Carolina Tar Heel went on to join the Miami Dolphins, where he suited up for two games in Weeks 4 and 5.
Austin, along with 13 other North Carolina players, were suspended from the Tar Heels for receiving improper benefits during his senior season. He did not play at all during the 2010 season.
Overall, 14 different defensive linemen have suited up for the Cowboys in the team's first seven games, according to the team's website. The Cowboys expect Austin to be ready for Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions.
