Cowboys' Romo To Undergo CT Scan Before Considering Surgery

IRVING (105.3 The FAN) — Tony Romo is scheduled to undergo a CT scan on his left collarbone this week, but it has not been determined that the next step after that is any surgical procedure, Cowboys sources tell 105.3 The Fan.
The Cowboys quarterback is "examining all options," a source said. "We won't fully know (about surgery) until after the CT scan."
One report suggests that decision has already been made, but it would obviously make sense to make a final determination only after the CT scan, not before.
Romo told the media over the weekend, "I think we know which way we're (leaning). We've had exhaustive discussions about it. But it's going to be good."
As Romo seemingly "leans" toward surgery, part of what needs to be weighed is the progress of the natural healing of the collarbone, which was broken on two different occasions this past season. Also under consideration would be the addition of a plate to lend support — though longtime NFL team physician Dr. David J. Chao has told 105.3 The Fan that the insertion of a plate doesn't automatically guarantee added strength.
In any event, Chao says there is no reason Romo will be anything but healthy for 2016, and Romo himself has talked of being healed in time to "be ready to rock for (May) OTAs. ... I just need to do everything in my power to ensure that I'm on that football field."
