DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) -- Though the Dallas Cowboys can boast only one playoff win since 1996, they continue to be the most valuable franchise in the NFL.
According to Forbes, the Cowboys are valued at $2.1 billion (up 14-percent from 2012) and are the fifth most valuable sports franchise worldwide.
The next closest NFL team is the New England Patriots, valued at $1.635 billion.
A trio of European soccer clubs top the list: Real Madrid (Spain, $3.3 billion), Manchester United (England, $3.165 billion), and Barcelona (Spain, $2.6 billion).
The New York Yankees, owned by the Steinbrenner Family since 1973, are the most valuable American franchise valued at $2.3 billion.
The Los Angeles Dodgers ($1.615 billion), Washington Redskins ($1.6 billion), New York Giants ($1.468 billion) and English soccer club Arsenal ($1.236 billion) round out the top 10.
The Cowboys have been the most valuable NFL franchise since 2007.
Forbes notes that the Cowboys generate $200 million from premium seating and stadium sponsorships -- more than any other NFL team.
