Cowboys Pick Off Manning, Get 38-35 OT Win In Indy
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Peyton Manning keeps making mistakes and the Indianapolis Colts just keep losing.
On Sunday, Manning had two of his four interceptions returned for touchdowns and the last one set up David Buehler's 38-yard field goal in overtime to give Dallas a 38-35 victory at Indianapolis.
It's the third straight loss for the Colts (6-6), and it dropped Indianapolis out of the AFC South lead.
Manning has thrown 11 interceptions in those games -- a career high for any three-week period in his 13-year career -- and had four of those returned for scores. Reggie Wayne finished with 14 catches for 200 yards and a touchdown.
But it was Manning's last interception that proved the most costly.
When the four-time league MVP tried to hook up with Jacob Tamme on a third-and-1 play, Mike Jenkins got his left hand on the ball and tipped it to linebacker Sean Lee, who grabbed his second pick of the day and ran it back 13 yards to the Indy 36.
Six plays later, Buehler made the field goal to win the first overtime game played at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Manning was 36 of 48 for 365 yards with two TDs and the four picks.
Dallas (4-8) won for the third time in four games since Jason Garrett took over as interim head coach, and they won this one on the ground. The Cowboys rushed for a season-high 217 yards.
The difference, as it usually is, was Manning, who threw two more interceptions in his first seven attempts.
But Manning still gave the Colts a chance.
Indy didn't take the lead until Taj Smith blocked a punt and recovered it in the end zone to make it 28-27 with 12:56 left in the game.
Dallas answered with a season-long 18-play, 10 minute, 18-second drive that included a personal foul penalty against Indy's Eric Foster for leverage. It ended with a 2-yard TD pass from Jon Kitna to Jason Witten and Kitna's conversion pass to Roy Williams to make it 35-28 with 2:38 left.
Manning responded with his own long drive, going to Wayne on seven of the first eight plays. Javarris James tied the score on a 2-yard run with 21 seconds left.
In overtime, Manning had two shots to win it.
But the Colts couldn't overcome the errant pass on their second possession.
It wasn't the first time Manning had trouble Sunday.
Dallas took a 7-0 lead when Tashard Choice made a nifty cutback across the field, capping the Cowboys' opening drive with a 20-yard TD run. Choice finished with 100 yards on 19 carries.
Manning's first interception set up Buehler for a 30-yard field goal that made it 10-0, and then on the second play of the second quarter, Orlando Scandrick undercut Blair White's route, picked off Manning and sprinted 40 yards for the TD to make it 17-0.
Dallas scored 20 points off turnovers.
