IRVING (105.3 THE FAN) - Jerry Jones doesn't shrink from talk of his star QB Tony Romo having fallen short in terms of playoff success. In fact, the Cowboys owner enjoys and encourages the debate.

"It's the discussion, it's the debate,'' Jones told "Shan & RJ'' on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday. "It's using a great season or a great game to gauge and talk about players as they relate to each other or they relate to other games they played. Let's don't put it to rest."

Romo is 2-4 in the playoffs with four postseason appearances in his previous 13 seasons. Is that his fault? His franchise's? The way the pointed ball bounces?

"Let's keep it alive," Jones said of arguing those questions. "Let's keep discussing it. Let's let him go out there and try to do something bigger here (Sept. 13 on) Opening Night than he's done before. All of this is what I'm for that is our eying interest on the game of football."

Because of the Cowboys legacy, anything short of a Super Bowl might be considered an albatross around Romo's neck.

But the fact is, since 2011, his 36 wins are tied with Seattle's Russell Wilson for ninth-best, his 66.2-percent completion percentage is fourth behind Drew Brees, Peyton Mannin, and Aaron Rodgers, and his 48 interceptions are the third-fewest behind Tom Brady and Ben Roethlisberger among passers with at least 2,000 attempts. And in 2014, he was a Pro Bowler again as well as an MVP finalist.

The owner is an admirer of the quarterback, obviously. You know which side of the debate Jerry stands on.

"He's a student of the game,'' Jones said of Romo. "He's a student, if you will, of competition. ... His coaches just can't say enough about how exceptional he is ... We're going to benefit from this."
