Cowboys Optimistic Spencer Will Play Against Saints
DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) -- The long awaited return of Cowboys defensive end Anthony Spencer is coming to an end -- soon.
Cowboys Executive Vice President Stephen Jones told the G-Bag Nation on Monday that the team is optimistic that Spencer will return this Sunday.
"Yes we are. Barring something unforeseen, he's ready to work back into practice and get ready to play against the Saints," said Jones on Monday. "We probably won't throw him out there and give him the full experience, but we'll certainly limit his snaps to some degree. But we really think he can not only come back, but really help us."

Spencer returned to practice last Wednesday, his first since undergoing microfracture surgery on his left knee in October.
The 30-year-old appeared in just one game last season, recording two tackles at Kansas City on Sept. 15.
Though Spencer will have gone 378 days between games, Jones believes that his former Pro Bowl end will make an impact, even suggesting that Spencer is close to returning to his 2012 peak form when he recorded 11 sacks and 95 tackles.
"I think it's close. I don't think we'd have him back out there if he wasn't ready to go," said Jones. "The bigger thing is the time off. Like we said with Tony [Romo], anytime you miss significant playing time, you've got to knock the rust off. As much as you practice and work out and prepare, you can't simulate a live game."
The process could take time (as it has with Romo), but the good news?
"The good news is we'll begin that journey Sunday."
