Cowboys May Move Practice Facilities To Frisco

FRISCO (CBSDFW.COM) - Football fans could soon learn if the Dallas Cowboys are really ready to pack up and move. The team is reportedly in talks with city officials in Frisco to bring their practice facilities north from their current location in Irving. An open field of 91 acres located near the Dallas North Tollway and Warren Parkway could become the NFL team's new headquarters.

The City of Frisco has a special meeting planned for Monday to discuss this very subject. It is a master plan agreement called 'Blue Star' that involves several organizations including Frisco city leaders, local schools and Cowboys entities. Documents show that a sports complex and corporate world headquarters will be located in the open field.

Frisco Mayor Maher Maso's office released a statement which said that he was "excited about the latest developments."  He told CBS 11's Elizabeth Dinh, "I think the council should evaluate it. That's why it's on the agenda tonight, so that's what they'll be doing and the community development coorporation and the economic development corporation will  be looking at it tonight, as will the school board. Until that time, it would be really inappropriate for me to comment."

The last time that the Cowboys moved was in the mid-1980s, from Dallas to the current Valley Ranch home in Irving.

Frisco is already tied, in some capacity, to several North Texas sports teams such as the Dallas Stars, the Dallas Mavericks, FC Dallas and the Texas Rangers.
