Cowboys May Fall Short On Two Free Agency Bids

IRVING (105.3 THE FAN) - The Cowboys flipped the "Tyron/Tyrone Triggers'' to help them accomplish standard under-the-cap business — opening about $13 million of cap room — but that doesn't mean there are monster free-agent signings on the horizon.

In fact, at this moment, a pair of Dallas' interviewees, QB Matt Moore and cornerback Nolan Carroll, seem to be considering returning to their former teams.

Moore played for the Dolphins last year, and while he met at Valley Ranch last Friday, he's back meeting in Miami today. (Ex-Cowboys QB Brandon Weeden has also met with the Dolphins.)

And Carroll, who played with the Eagles last season, is the subject of buzz in Philly that he's returning their under the terms of a one-year deal.

Dallas has added Eagles defensive tackle Cedric Thornton in free agency and has retained a handful of its own free agents, including Rolando McClain, Mo Claiborne, James Hanna and Kyle Wilber. Part of that philosophy is based on the organization's belief that its core group is a winning one.

Additionally, the team has mapped out long-term financial plans that include the retention of more of its own, such as offensive-line mainstays Travis Frederick, Zack Martin and La'el Collins.
