Cowboys Leaders Get Emotional At Luncheon

ARLINGTON (THE FAN) - The annual Cowboys Kickoff Luncheon was punctuated by emotion from former leaders, present leaders and even injured leaders.
"This team,'' said Orlando Scandrick, perched atop crunches and fighting back tears as he accepted the 2014 defensive MVP award and acknowledging his season-ruining knee injury, "means everything to me.''
It means a lot to the huge collection of fans and sponsors who gathered to benefit the charity Happy Hill Farm Academy and who heard Hall-of-Famer Michael Irvin to use the pulpit like a fire-and-brimstone preacher.
"Let me tell you how to leave your mark,'' Irvin said to today's players looking forward to Super Bowl 50. "It's not how much money you make. It's not about how much fame you gain. It's about finishing the journey. … I don't care how yo get there, I don't care how you come up with it. You just make sure at the end of this year, you make sure the golden team of the NFL is winning the golden Super Bowl of the NFL.''
The Cowboys believe they have the talent to contend for such a "journey,'' and some of that talent joined Scandrick in accepting awards. The offensive line collectively was named Offensive MVP. Snapper LP Ladouceur is the Special-Teams MVP. Tyrone Crawford is the Ed Block Courage Award winner.
Said coach Jason Garrett: "This is the time of year when bold predictions are made. We ain't making any of those. But we're gonna make you proud this year.''
