Cowboys Player Josh Brent Bonds Out Of Jail

IRVING (CBSDFW) -- Dallas Cowboys nose tackle Josh Brent, 24, posted $500,000 bail and was released from the Irving jail this afternoon, minutes after his teammates beat the Cinncinnati Bengals 20-19.
Brent was somber as he walked out of jail with visable scratches to his head and a wrapped right hand.
He answered only one question saying, "Jerry Brown is my dear best friend and I'm just trying to deal with his death right now."
Brent was charged with intoxication manslaughter for being the driver in a fatal crash that killed his best friend, roommate and Cowboys teammate Jerry Brown.
"It's a horrible thing if you understand how close they are. It's like he got in a car accident and his little brother was killed, that's the way he see's it," said Brent's attorney, Geroge Milner III.
By all accounts Brent and Brown were living out their dreams of playing professional football and they were it doing it together.
Brown's family issued a statement through his agent this morning.
"The family of Jerry Brown Jr. wish to to express our sincere appreciation for all your prayers, phone calls, flowers, visits and other acts of kindness shown during the death of our son. We would also like to send our prayers to Josh Brent and his family as well. With kindness and love, the Family of Jerry Brown Jr."
Despite posting the $500,000 bail, Milner argued it was too high.
"It's outrageous. The sad fact is that any other citizen that wasn't employed the way he's employed would have had a $30,000 to $50,000 bond," he said.
Brent was driven to his North Texas home by his attorney. One of Brent's uncle will be staying with him for support.
As a condition of his bond, an interlock will be put into Brent's vehicle, which is mandatory under state for an intoxication manslaughter charge, according to Milner.
Brent's case will be sent to the Dallas County District Attorney and will then go before a grand jury who will decide if Brent will be indicted.
The Cowboys have not officially announced what Brent's future with the club will be.
"When this happens everybody loses. When this goes to court someday in the future, there will be no winners," Milner said. "No matter what the verdict is, there will be be no winners, certainly not for his roommate Jerry Brown's family."
