Cowboys Jerry Jones: Resting Romo Is '100-Percent'

OXNARD, CALIF. (105.3 THE FAN) - The Dallas Cowboys keep making positive proclamations about the back-related health of Tony Romo even as the quarterback sat out a second afternoon workout in five practice days in Oxnard training camp.

"He's 100-percent," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said during Tuesday afternoon's session, during which Romo was an observer. "He's just being real smart and sensitive about coming off the back surgery."

Romo underwent a season-ending discectomy at the close of last year but was considered a "full-go" by the Cowboys when camp opened last week. Romo himself says he's fine, and amid what could be considered red flags - his owner is doing the same.

"We feel really good," Jones said. "We're really pleased with the way he's practicing and the work he's getting done and what he's doing both on and off the field. There is nothing that in any way would concern you about his back.''

The Cowboys do concede that they have Romo on a "snap count" of sorts, all part of a "ramp up" that at the very least is filled with precautions.

"He's certainly not losing any ground from opening up against San Francisco," said Jones, emphasizing that Week 1 of the regular season is infinitely more important than Practice 5 of camp.
