IRVING, Texas (105.3 THE FAN) - The Cowboys' approach to free agency? Be second-wave shoppers.
The Jaguars' approach to free agency? Buy, buy, buy.
Jacksonville will, on Tuesday, close a five-year $32million deal with Dallas backup tackle Jermey Parnell.
Sources tell 105.3 The Fan that Jacksonville is also in conversation with Parnell teammate DeMarco Murray, which would quality as a major get — but might cost the Jags $9 million a year, a figure the Cowboys are unwilling to approach.
Sources tell 105.3 The Fan that Dallas and DeMarco's agents did no negotiating with each other over the weekend, though Dallas is focusing on its own priorities, with talks with the tagged Dez Bryant and a three-year, $15-mil deal with Doug Free, who was backed up by Parnell.
Jacksonville is also working to sign defensive tackle Jared Odrick and tight end Julius Thomas.
Among those who top Dallas' second-wave shopping list, according to 105.3 The Fan sources: Chicago defensive tackle Stephen Paea.
"Overpaying free-agent wise has not borne out,'' Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said recently. "Not just for us, but around the league in general. When you go out and overpay in free agency, those usually don't have good endings."
