Cowboys Have Their Zaniest Playoff Answer, 'Why Not Us'

By Mike Fisher  | @fishsports

LANDOVER, Md (105.3 THE FAN) - Two weeks ago, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made sure after Dallas' third win (in 10 tries) that I heard his "ugly baby'' analogy. He used it again on Tuesday after his team registered a fourth win (in 12 tries) that incredibly puts this team in position to, among other things, end the 2016 season in a four-way tie in the four-team NFC East … and win the division and a home-playoff opener with a 6-10 record.

"I'm going to back to that old saying,'' Jerry told "Shan & RJ'' on 105.3 The Fan, summarizing Monday's 19-16 win at Washington. "It's an ugly baby, but it's my baby. And here we go. Step by step …

"The bottom line is 'Why not?' We can go up there (to Green Bay next Sunday) and defense put together a game like that, a little more confidence in our offense, and here we go.

"Why not?"

And here's how ugly/funny/barely-successful-enough it might be:

WEEK 14

Bills beat Eagles
Redskins beat Bears
Dolphins beat Giants
Packers beat Cowboys

WEEK 15

Cowboys beat Jets
Panthers beat Giants
Bills beat Redskins
Cardinals beat Eagles

WEEK 16

Eagles beat Redskins
Bills beat Cowboys
Vikings beat Giants

WEEK 17

Dallas beats Washington
Giants beat Eagles

And it's done. Dallas wins the division based on its record within the NFC East … and it happens without unrealistic miracles (meaning, it includes Dallas road losses at Green Bay and Buffalo).

Maybe the Cowboys win more than two of the last four. Or fewer. Maybe one of the other NFC East teams heats up. Or maybe none of them do.

The question "Why not us?'' now has its zaniest answer.
