Cowboys Harris Earns NFC Special Teams Award
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) -- When asked what pleased him most from Sunday's opening week win over the New York Giants, Jerry Jones didn't point to the Dallas defense or Tony Romo.
Instead, the Cowboys owner and GM singled out fourth receiver Dwayne Harris for his contributions on special teams.
"I really thought we played well on special teams. I really would point to Harris, No. 17," said Jones on 105.3 The Fan's New School with Shan & RJ. "He had a really inspired game and really fit an area he had been working on because he can help us all over the entire football team."
On Wednesday, the NFL agreed with Jones, naming Harris the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week.
Harris recorded three solo tackles in the game, including two on punt returner Ruben Randle, who finished the game with 20 yards on four returns.
The East Carolina alum also served as the Cowboys punt returner, averaging 9.5 yards in two attempts.
Harris also won the award in week 10 of 2012 after returning a punt 78-yards for a touchdown in a 38-23 win over Philadelphia.
While rookie Terrence Williams earned the third receiver spot over Harris in training camp, Jones expects Harris' role to increase moving forward.
"He also though can be a top third receiver," said Jones. "He'll get more playing time there and that should really make him a complete player with a lot of plays during the game."
