Cowboys Getting 'Awesome Sauce' From Hardy

By Mike Fisher | @fishsports

GRAPEVINE (CBSDFW.COM) -- A couple of years ago, Cowboys COO Stephen Jones predicted success for the franchise because it possessed a "secret sauce." Maybe the secret is improved weaponry on defense, and what does one of those weapons, controversial and colorful pass-rusher Greg Hardy think of his addition here?

"Awesome sauce!" He said Tuesday at the team's annual golf tournament.

And so the condiments are handled. Now Dallas needs to keep plowing through the controversies and get him on the field, where he's already demonstrating in workouts what a force the former Panthers All-Pro can be.

Hardy is appealing a 10-game suspension for a domestic-violence incident in May 2014. He made news a few weeks ago for getting involved in a verbal altercation with teammate Davon Coleman during conditioning drills. He become embroiled in foolishness with a Twitter post attempting to joke about 9-11.

The Cowboys say they are addressing the negatives. Meanwhile, they can't say enough about the positives.

"He comes to work," owner Jerry Jones said. "He's ready to go at all hours. I'm excited about his zest. It's contagious. ...He helps everybody work harder and that's what you want from a player from a leadership standpoint. He's a leader."

The Cowboys totaled just 28 sacks last season - only two more than Hardy recorded by himself in 2012 and 2013.

"He's an animal," teammate Brandon Carr told reporters. "I love him. He gives it his all every single day. That's all you can ask for."
