Cowboys Fans React To Tragic Accident
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The tragic crash that took the life of Dallas Cowboys Practice Squad member Jerry Brown, and landed his friend, Josh Brent, in jail, charged with killing him while driving intoxicated, has left Dallas fans stunned.
"It's pretty shocking," Scott Womack told us while dining in Dallas' West End.
Another fan, Jason Cooper said, "Well, it's just a tragedy, I mean, anytime something like this happens. I've been involved in an accident myself, you know? And I know it's just a terrible thing to go through for the families.
At Fair Park, where Kwanzaafest was underway, there were similar reactions. "It's really unfortunate that that happened, making an everyday decision that affects everybody's life is really sad," Lindsey Pasch told us.
Fans were also moved at Christies Uptown Sports Bar, people like Evyn Temperton, who predicted it would effect the players. " I'm sure it will be difficult for them to move on without him," she told CBS 11 News adding, "but I'm sure they'll bounce back and be able to come around."
While everyone we spoke with expressed sympathy for the loss, others are angry at the driver, Brent, for creating the situation that apparently cost his friend his life. Among them was Shannon McNulty. " I think that it's really sad that he was busted for a DUI in 2009 and it took the life of a 25-year-old. It's sad."
David Wilkins agreed. We have to keep pushing, "Don't drink and drive," because things can happen that are devastating."
Auqua Mackey worried about the alcohol aspect. "On that, we have a thing called AA. And he was probably having a problem nobody knew it. He'd probably been an alcoholic. Accidents do happen, but I feel this is going to be a lesson well-learned and an eye-opener to everybody."
Back in the West End Scott Womacks' wife, Carol, agreed. "Some of these players, you know, they're kind of crazy, you know, and they live life on the edge and these kinds of things happen."
So what about fans? Will it change their view of the team? Carol Womack thinks so. " I love my Cowboys and I'm rooting for them and hoping everything turns out okay for them."
And Shannon McNulty echoed, "I think the Cowboys' fans are Cowboys' fans regardless."
