Cowboys: A Failure Of Leadership
By now all Cowboys fans are probably sick of the prognosticators, former coaches, players, talk show hosts and analysts calling the team dumb after the embarrassing way they ended the game in Baltimore. They are probably even more sick that after compiling 481 yards of total offense and 227 of those yards on the ground, the team still LOST. That's hard to do.
But I think what EVERYONE is sick of is the excuses.
Jason Garrett, a Princeton grad, actually tried to tell all of us that what happened with 23 seconds left in the game, and with a time out, was planned. The only problem was that things just didn't work out the way they had planned.
ARE YOU SERIOUS?
Miles Austin, Dez Bryant and Kevin Ogletree all looked lost as the clock continue tick away. You might wonder why the clock was ticking...because Romo threw a 1 yard slant to Dez who was immediately tackled no where near the sideline. So in Garrett's head, with 23 seconds left and a time out, getting off one play is perfectly acceptable.
And this is problem with the Cowboys. They play dumb in game on the line situations and then try to explain it away as if we shouldn't ask any questions. Does anyone remember the Arizona game last year.
What this does once again, is show Jason Garrett's failure as a leader of this team. He continues to say the team will get better, but they do not. He talks about late game situations getting better, but they do not. He talks about the penalties and how they need to get cleaned up, but they don't. He talks about accountability, but he fails to enforce it.
Why on earth are the Cowboys looking clueless at the end of tight game? Why are earth after three years, is Dez Bryant still making mental mistakes that cost his team? Why on earth should you have to simplify calls for your quarterback when you continue to say he is an elite quarterback? Why are we still seeing penalties coming at the worst possible time in games?
The answer: failure of leadership. And the person that is suppose to be the leader is the head coach. And the head coach, in this case Jason Garrett, has failed to lead.
