Cowboys Draft Invitees Heavy On O-Line, Safety
IRVING (105.3 THE FAN) - The Dallas Cowboys are involved in pre-Draft visits this week, with prospects for the 2013 NFL Draft touring the facilities and interviewing with coaches. Each team is allowed 30 such visits and I've put together a list from inside Valley Ranch of some of the college kids who are verified as being in town:
Offensive line: Jonathan Cooper (North Carolina), Travis Frederick (Wisconsin), Justin Pugh (Syracuse), Chance Warmack (Alabama)
Running backs: Le'veon Bell (Michigan State), Knile Davis (Arkansas), Joseph Randle (Oklahoma State)
Defensive line: Bennie Logan (LSU), Jordan Hill (Penn State), Sheldon Richardson (Missouri)
Linebackers: Gerald Hodges (Penn State), Sean Porter LB (Texas A&M)
Safeties: Jonathan Cyprien (Florida International), Eric Reid (LSU), Kenny Vaccaro (Texas)
As you can see, with Cooper and Warmack, the Cowboys are fully covered with the two coveted offensive guards that might be there when Dallas picks at No. 18 overall. The Cowboys also are obviously prioritizing safety, with the top three prospects – led by Vaccaro -- coming to town.
Notably not on the list, according to my sources: D.J. Fluker, the tackle from Alabama. That doesn't mean he's not a draft-able prospect, of course (though I don't believe he's near 18 on Dallas' board); not being invited doesn't necessarily mean disinterest.
While first-round talent obviously grabs the headlines, note that Dallas' search for talent extends down to players like Davis, projected by some to go in the seventh and final round of the draft.
