Cowboys Defense Facing Major Problems

DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) - We were discussing the Cowboys chances against the Eagles on our pregame show yesterday when the number "30" came up again.  As in the first team to 30 wins the game.

The Cowboys lost by a score of 30-27 for the second time in three games, and squeezed in the middle was the 38-35 overtime win against the Colts.

It has been a regular trend with these Dallas Cowboys, who have now given up 366 points through 13 games.  That is an average of 28 points per game and keeps the Cowboys on pace to give up more points than any team in Cowboys history.

Hard to believe we spend so much time talking about Kitna, Dez, Felix, Romo and the gang huh?  The only team that has allowed more points than the Cowboys this season?  The Arizona Cardinals.  The Cowboys only gave up 250 points last season.  They've allowed 43 touchdowns, which is 15 more than last year.  (Thanks to our Mickey Spagnola for digging into these numbers on the pregame show yesterday).

The bottom line is teams are scoring at will against Dallas.

The Cowboys have stayed in games recently because they have been able to create some turnovers and come up with some big plays on special teams.  That was the formula again last night as the Cowboys were able to double Michael Vick's interception total to 4, plus they were able to sack him a couple of times.  But when the Eagles, Saints and Cowboys needed points, they came rather easily, unless the Cowboys tipped a ball here or forced a turnover there.

Demarcus Ware had a very good game yesterday, but there are plenty of question marks surrounding this team.  Just what is Mike Jenkins?  A good player or one who is regressing?  Is Terrence Newman worth $9 million next season?  What happened to Anthony Spencer, who actually had a pretty good game last night as well.  It seems the majority of the holes are in the secondary, but there is plenty of blame to go around on what is on pace to one of the worst defenses in Cowboys history.

Hard to believe.
