Cowboys Complete Deals With 2 NFL Veterans
IRVING (105.3 THE FAN) – A dozen different cogs are in motion as the Dallas Cowboys are making cap space in order to add potential defensive starters Justin Durant and Will Allen to the roster.
Sources tell 105.3 The Fan that the club has restructured the contract of backup quarterback Kyle Orton and released of receiver Anthony Armstrong in order to free up space to finalize agreed-to deals with Durant and Allen.
The Durant and Allen deals are now complete.
Both players visited Valley Ranch on Monday. Durant, 27, has been a full-time starter in Detroit and will be penciled in as Dallas' strong-side linebacker. Allen, 30, has been a part-time starter in his career as a safety and also excelled at special teams when he played in Tampa under assistant coaches Monte Kiffin and Rich Bisaccia, both of whom are now Cowboys coaches.
Dallas was also interested in defensive back Michael Huff, an Irving native, but he's reportedly getting a three-year deal with Baltimore.
The Cowboys are also closing in on a deal with offensive lineman Brandon Moore of the Jets, with whom he made a Pro Bowl and once worked under Bill Callahan, Dallas' offensive coordinator. Dallas also has some interest in Jets guard Matt Slauson.
Meanwhile, sources tell 105.3 The Fan that talks continue regarding Tony Romo and Anthony Spencer, two big-money deals that if completed could open up as much as $8 million and $5 million, respectively, under the cap.
