DESOTO (CBSDFW.COM) - A couple was shot as they slept in their home located in an upscale DeSoto neighborhood Wednesday morning.

Parrish Dixon, 49, died at her home in the 1000 block of Longmeadow; her husband Robert survived. He was calling for help when police arrived.

According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Dixon Senior's son, Robert Dixon II, opened the door and walked outside with his arms raised when they arrived. The affidavit also said officers saw what "appeared to be freshly painted (still dripping) crosses in blood" inside the home.

Court documents state his father identified the 19-year-old as the shooter and said there wasn't a confrontation before it happened. Robert Dixon II, is in custody at the DeSoto Jail. At some point, police will transfer him to the Dallas County Jail as they search for a motive.

Police said the teenager doesn't live in North Texas and was visiting from somewhere in Illinois.

Neighbors who spoke to CBS11 said they are stunned and saddened.

"They moved in here and they were friendly, and they came in and they worked on their house and we visited them over there, talking and all that kind of stuff…  to hear something like that, it really hurts," said neighbor James Hampton.

Parrish Dixon was a flight attendant instructor with American Airlines.  The Fort Worth-based carrier released the following statement:

"Parrish Dixon was a well-loved member of American's flight attendant instructor team. We are deeply saddened by her death.  We are in the midst of providing care for Parrish's family as well as our colleagues, and our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time."
