COLLIN COUNTY (CBS11) - An employee of a Collin County country club is dead and another employee is in jail after investigators said an argument led to gunfire on the club's golf course.

John Robert Sim, 20, was being held in the Collin County Detention Center Wednesday facing a murder charge with a $500,000 bond.

Officers were able to find him thanks in part to the help of a homeowner who got suspicious when Sim showed up in his backyard.

Law enforcement spent Wednesday in and out of the Hurricane Creek Country Club after gunfire on one of the greens sent the private club into lockdown.

Rick O'Neal lives in the nearby Hurricane Creek Estates, but he didn't know about the shooting when he saw a strange man approaching his property.

"To see some guy coming over the fence sopping wet, you know something's not right," O'Neal said.

Investigators said Sim, a greenskeeper, fired the shot that killed his co-worker, 55-year-old Julio Garcia. Deputies had been searching for Sim for about an hour when he showed up in O'Neal's backyard.

"When I approached him, I asked him, I said, what's going on, and he didn't say anything, and so I asked him again, and finally he responded, and he says, well I'm just lost; I'm trying to find Anna," O'Neal said.

O'Neal directed him to the street in front of his home and carefully watched him walk away. He said he was just about to call 911.

"And the constable came up, and I said you need to talk to this guy going down the... and before I could even get, 'the road' out, he's already sped down there, so he knew what he was looking for. I didn't know what was going on," O'Neal said.

After Sim's arrest, Hurricane Creek remained closed as members of various law enforcement agencies continued to arrive at the crime scene.

"It's been a peaceful neighborhood. I guess it just goes to show anything can happen anytime anywhere," O'Neal said.

Investigators told CBS11, the dispute appears to be only between Sim and Garcia and they're confident no one else was involved.
