Convicted Sex Offender Sentenced To 180 Years
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A 28-year-old convicted sex offender was sentenced to 180 years in prison for sexually abusing a young boy whose family had befriended him. Jurors on Friday convicted Timothy Card of four charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child and of one charge of indecency with a child.
The jury sentenced him to 90 years in prison and a $5,000 fine on each of the five convictions. Afterward, state district Judge Ruben Gonzalez stacked two of the 90-year sentences on top of each other, bringing Card's punishment to 180 years in prison.
During the trial, prosecutors Dale Smith and Kim D'Avignon presented evidence that Card lived on and off with a North Richland Hills family who had hired him to care for a relative with health issues. In August 2011, an 8-year-old boy who lived in the home told his mother that Card sexually him in their bathroom, backyard and living room.
During the punishment phase of the trial, jurors heard that Card was a registered sex offender who was adjudicated as a juvenile in 1998 for sexually abusing a neighbor. He spent 4 1⁄2 years in the Texas Youth Commission, then the prison for juveniles.
In 2006, Card was sentenced to 15 months in a state jail facility for failing to register as a sex offender.
