Convicted Robber Flees Before Verdict Is Read
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Jurors in Fort Worth on Wednesday convicted 38-year-old Belinda Barrow of aggravated robbery. But before the verdict could be officially read, she had fled from the courthouse.
Barrow had been accused of entering an 82-year-old woman's apartment at the Normandale Place senior living center on August 27. The victim was expecting a friend and had told Barrow to come inside. Barrow robbed the woman at gunpoint in broad daylight, even removing wedding rings from the victim's fingers.
Barrow ultimately confessed to the home invasion robbery after being arrested in connection with another case. She was set free on bond.
Jurors listened to the home invasion case on Wednesday and left the courtroom to deliberate. However, by the time that they were ready to read the guilty verdict, Barrow could not be found. Authorities searched the building with no luck. A review of surveillance video showed Barrow and a friend walking away from the courtroom just after the jury began deliberations.
Barrow remains at large on Thursday morning, as the sentencing phase of her trial begins without her present. She could face life in prison. Officials with the Fort Worth Police Department and U.S. Marshals Task Force are trying to locate Barrow and bring her back to the courtroom.
