KAUFMAN, Texas (1080 KRLD) - Eric Williams will be back in a Kaufman County courtroom today trying to get his capital murder conviction and death sentence set aside.
Attorneys for Williams are claiming there are two arguments to getting his conviction overturned.

The first is that newly discovered evidence shows that Eric Williams had a prior brain injury.
In January Williams' defense lawyers pushed for the examination, in hopes that it would show that health reasons, possibly caused by diabetes, affected Williams' brain - a sort of 'diabetic rage.'
A second motion suggests the judge made facial expressions at defense lawyers during the trial and may have influenced the jury.
Former Judge John Creuzot says that the brain injury issue could have been used in the punishment phase of the trial but says the defense had a responsibility of raising the injury during the trial...not now.
