Conventioneers At Hilton Anatole On Alert After Violent Attack
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas is playing host to thousands of visitors this week. They're in town for the massive "Five Star" real estate convention. But after a rash of thefts Wednesday night, it also appears the prestigious hotel is playing host to a thief.
A woman visiting from Pittsburgh was walking through the parking lot of the Anatole Wednesday evening when she was attacked from behind and pulled to the ground. The attacker grabbed her purse and according to the police report, tried to kiss and hug her. The victim attempted to fight back, but the suspect punched her in the stomach.
Police say she screamed and her attacker fled the scene with the woman's purse.
Inside the hotel, four other visitors fell prey to a thief Wednesday night. Police say some one broke into their hotel rooms, and in every case, stole either their Macbook laptops, their I-Pads, or both.
Tron Shephard is a conventioneer from Florida and says the thefts are no surprise to him. "You got thousands of people over here from different states and you're really not aware of your surroundings," explained Shephard. "At the end of the day, these people are easy targets."
It's too early to tell if the four thefts inside the hotel are connected to the assault that took place in the parking lot. CBS 11 contacted the Anatole Hotel, but no one returned our phone call.
