Suspects Identified In Murder Of Store Clerk

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A suspect has been arrested in the murder of a convenience store clerk that was shot and killed by robbers in the Cockrell Hill area of Dallas on September 23rd. Nowaffaq Shararah, a husband and father had only been on the job a few weeks.
Dallas Homicide Detectives received information linking 22-year-old Lonzell Hunter to the murder. On November 10th, Dallas detectives arrested Hunter, who is currently in jail on an unrelated capitol murder charge.
The incident at the Sunshine Foodmart, in the 3900 block of South Cockrell Hill Road, happened just after 5 a.m. and by 11 a.m. the store had reopened for business.
Police and crime tape surrounded the store for much of the morning. Investigators say two armed suspects entered the store and during the course of a robbery shot the clear.
There were some customers inside the store when the shooting happened – including D.J. Johnson. "I didn't see anything," he said. "I just heard the shot, heard the shot, hit the floor then ran up front to see the guy laying in the front."
The manager of the store, Ahmad Ghali, said he got a call saying that his employee had been killed. He said the clerk was originally from Jordan where he was a Special Forces service member.
"The guy was in the restroom," Ghali said. "The guy came in [and a] customer told the clerk somebody had a gun outside walking around the store. He didn't know what to do."
The suspects in the robbery and shooting are still on the loose. There are several surveillance cameras at the business and Ghali believes the shooting and suspects were captured on video. He has handed that video over to police.
Oak Farms Dairy is offering to pay $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the persons responsible.
