Controversial Growth Plan Has Some Plano Residents Planning Recall Election

PLANO (1080 KRLD) - Several Plano City Council Members could face a recall election after a controversial vote was cast Monday night.
The council voted 6-2 to approve the 'Plano Tomorrow' plan which would allow to development of high density apartment housing. Opponents of the plan packed the meeting to address the council.
Some outspoken homeowners are worried the plan will allow more apartments to be built almost anywhere in the city. They also say the plan doesn't account for expanding emergency services that would be needed for the increased population.
"It's a blueprint for the destruction of the suburban way of life which I love" said one critic of the City Council's plan.
Supporters say the proposal will bring new retail and residential space to attract more people to the city.
Plano mayor Harry LaRosiliere spoke with 1080 KRLD's Cameron Fairchild about the "Plano Tomorrow" plan.
Critics of 'Plano Tomorrow' claim it will turn the city into a congested urban center with crowded schools, and warned council members before the meeting that if they voted for the plan, they'd be subject to a recall.
A recall petition needs signatures that total 30 percent of the votes cast in the most recent municipal election.
