Consumers Lining Up Early For Black Friday

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - The Thanksgiving Day line forming around the buildings of big box retailers, isn't a new sight; but it's forming earlier, and earlier than in years past.

The Black Friday creep into Thanksgiving means customers are leaving their feasts and family at home to be the first to grab big deals on electronics, toys and home goods.

"I'm looking for a laptop, a TV, and a cell phone, so I'm one of those big buyers this year," said Marvin Trexler.

Aida Basirat was the first outside the North Arlington Best Buy, arriving 5 hours before the doors were to open.

"I'm here to buy a Samsung Galaxy S4 and an iPad 2," she said.

This year marks the first time Macys and JC Penney have opened their stores on Thanksgiving.

Best Buy, Toys R Us opened hours earlier than in 2012, and 24-hour Walmart started its deals at an earlier hour as well.

"Tradition, tradition. It's just the trend. If customers say they want us here at 6 p.m., then we're going to give it to them," said Shaun Ogdie, the General Manager of the North Arlington Best Buy.

In recent years, some consumers and employees at various retailers around the country have protested these early Thanksgiving Day openings.

But the shoppers keep coming: CNN reports The National Retail Foundation is expecting shoppers to spend $602.1 billion in November and December, a 3.9 percent increase from last year's holiday shopping season.

"This is my tenth Black Friday with Best Buy. It's fun, it's exciting. We train our employees for three months to be ready for this," said Ogdie, whose store opened at 6 p.m. Thursday and won't close again until 10 p.m. Friday.
