ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Carol Hunter's refrigerator might be the cleanest one in North Texas
"It's easy to keep it clean when there's nothing in it," she said.
Her 2012 Samsung refrigerator is empty because it stopped working in March.
So Hunter tried to fix the ice maker herself.
"I got the new one, put it in and waited for it to work and guess what? It didn't work," she said.
Sears sent out a technician to fix it.
"He said, 'well, you must have gotten a bad one. It's broken. We'll have to order a new one,' " said Hunter about the Sears technician.
But the new one didn't work either, in fact the next six ice makers they brought out to her home didn't work.
The technicians then ordered a new main board.
"The main board came back and we installed it. We got ice," said Hunter.
Ice! Problem solved, right?
"It froze everything in my refrigerator," said Hunter.
The technician put in the wrong board two more times.
Hunter might laugh if she wasn't so frustrated and if there wasn't such a serious reason why they need a working fridge.
Carol's husband has cancer and a compromised immune system so she's very careful about what he eats.
"We don't want to take advantage of anything, we just want them to help us with the food that was spoiled because of incompetence," said Hunter.
Sears told her they couldn't do anything because she didn't have extended warranty.
CBS 11's Consumer Justice unit contacted Sears and they agreed to pay the Hunter's $350 for the ruined food.
Sears also gave the Hunter's one year of free maintenance calls in case their refrigerator stops working again.
"You guys did a great job. I'm so happy. We're so lucky to have you working for us," said Hunter.
