Construction Crew Hits Gas Line Near Dallas Love Field
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - ATMOS has responded to the scene of a gas leak near Dallas Love Field. A third-party construction crew hit a 2" natural gas line at about 11:30 this morning, at Weiss and Wylie Streets, which is located on the northwestern border of the airport.
Southwest Airlines said the gas leak is not impacting its operations and no runways at the airports are closed at this time.
Dallas firefighters thought they might need to shut down one of the runways to incoming and outgoing flights due to the gas fumes from the broken line. However, airport spokesman Jose Torres says no runway was ever closed or shut down and airport operations were not impacted.
Jennifer Ryan, spokesperson for ATMOS energy, says there have been no evacuations or injuries due to the gas leak. Because gas is being dissipated into the air, it poses no threat to those in the immediate area around the leak. Customers are not expected to lose gas as a result of the leak, according to Ryan.
Crews welded the steel pipe back together and repairs were completed around 4 p.m.
Atmos says this is a reminder for construction crews to call 811 before digging to learn what pipes are below ground.
