Conservative Activist O'Keefe Speaks At SMU
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - He is accused of setting up a fake news sting that targeted The Washington Post. On Wednesday night, controversial conservative advocate James O'Keefe spoke on the campus of SMU.
O'Keefe dodged any questions related to the recent failed sting on The Washington Post. "I cannot speak to investigations that are imagined or don't come to fruition. I can only speak to what I release. I cannot release my sources and methods," said O'Keefe.
It was his first public appearance since he allegedly tried to pass off a fake news story to The Washington Post regarding Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore.
The Washington Post claims that a woman recently approached the new organization, claiming to have been impregnated by Moore. Reporters said that she was lying about the story and then followed her back to O'Keefe's organization, Project Veritas.
The SMU chapter of Young Americans for Freedom planned the event a month before the controversy began with O'Keefe.
"I don't think that's what our organization is concerned with doing for this event's purpose… is making moral judgements on what he's done," said Grant Wolf, the chapter president of YAF. "There are many questionable, controversial speakers who speak on college campuses across on both sides of the spectrum."
Organizers said that they were preparing for protesters, but none were spotted inside or outside of the student center on Wednesday night.
