Community Pitches In To Pay For Injured Dog's Surgery
RICHLAND HILLS (CBS 11 NEWS) - A dog injured in a car accident and left to die in Richland Hills is now recovering after neighbors helped raise money for surgery.
Saturday, the city's animal control officer, Elizabeth Jensen responded to a call about a hurt animal and found the dog, behind a dumpster.
"He was definitely in pain," she said. "And I just wrapped him in a sheet, ran down to the shelter, loaded him in my truck, and headed to the emergency clinic."
The call to police came from two girls who'd been playing in a field and seen the dog there all day.
With five broken ribs, a hernia, and bruising, the little pup was barely breathing and barely moving.
"All he could do was lift his head," said Jensen. "He couldn't walk. He actually was living in my bathtub.
It would take an expensive surgery to help him, too expensive for the shelter to afford.
As word got out in the community, though, people started coming forward, raising $2200 dollars to give him hope of surviving.
"It's overwhelming. It's just overwhelming that there are so many people out there that see a little dog who's injured and they reach out and help."
