Collin County Veteran Services Receiving Facilities Renovation
MCKINNEY (CBSDFW.COM) - The Collin County Veteran Services is accustomed to assisting and aiding veterans in any way that they can. But on Thursday, they are receiving some help of their own.
The Home Depot Foundation is deploying its army of Team Depot volunteers to transform the facilities of the organization.
The 50-plus volunteers – comprised of local store associates – will update the McKinney facility by replacing and restoring the facility doors, storage space, ceiling, and floors, and also making improvements to the landscaping.
The efforts are part of the foundation's second annual Celebration of Service, a two-month campaign that will complete hundreds of projects aimed at supporting veterans.
The Home Depot Foundation committed $30 million in 2011 to improve the homes of economically disadvantaged veterans. As part of this year's projects, the foundation has committed an additional $50 million over the next three years "to ensure every veteran has a safe place to call home."
The foundation has teamed up on this initiative with the Community Lifeline Center, a non-profit organization that provides assistance, information and referral services for the residents of McKinney and north Collin County.
