Collin County Students Hoping For Third Straight Day Off

COLLIN COUNTY(CBSDFW.COM) - Slick roads kept thousands of kids out of school for a second straight day.  Frisco, Plano and Allen students are among them.

But those "ice days" appear to be over as most sidewalks leading up to the schools in Frisco are in good shape thanks to crews shoveling ice and the melting.

Maintenance crews with Frisco Independent School District were out Tuesday afternoon spreading salt at many campuses.  Meantime, students made the most of their time off sledding on the ice.  Some Cobb Middle School students told CBS 11 they're hoping for snow tonight and a third straight day off.

"We better, "says Sophia Jerome.  "I don't want there to be school.  Ugh.  No."

Her mother is ready for school to start again. "If the temperature stays up and it's only snow, I think driving conditions will be a lot better provided it doesn't freeze over again," says Sonya Jerome.

That refreezing along with a little snow on top could cause some travel issues Wednesday morning, which is what school districts across North Texas will be watching throughout the night.
