Collin County Deputy & Wife Killed In House Fire

FANNIN COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - Investigators in Fannin County are still working to determine the exact cause of a fire that took the life of a Collin County sheriff's deputy and his wife.

Deputy Richard "Dickie" Fields and his wife, Rebecca, were both killed in a Sunday morning house fire. The preliminary belief is that the two-story house, near the town of Ladonia, not far from Sherman, may have went up in flames after being struck by lightning.

The home was a total loss.

Deputy Fields worked in a number of divisions during his more than 19-year tenure with the Collin County Sheriff's Office and for the past two years was a school resource officer at the Juvenile Detention School in McKinney.

In 2012, Fields was a republican candidate for Fannin County Sheriff.

In a statement issued Sunday Collin County Sheriff Terry Box said, "Richard was a good person, very reliable. Everybody loved him.  He was always available and has a hard worker."

Deputy Fields and his wife were married for 38 years and have two sons.

Funeral arrangements for the couple are still pending.
