Collin County Crash Kills 1 & Leaves Plano Firefighter In ICU
COLLIN COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - An early morning head-on collision in Collin County has left one woman dead and a Plano firefighter in critical condition.
According to investigators, it was around 7:30 a.m. when the two drivers crashed on Highway121 and Outer Loop Road, in the city of Anna.
The female victim, identified as Zelia Alvarez of Westminster, was driving a 2008 GMC Yukon. The second vehicle, driven by firefighter Lindy Lawley, was a Chevy 2500 pickup.
Police do not know the circumstances of the crash and are still trying to determine if one vehicle perhaps veered over the center line or if one driver was trying to pass another vehicle and caused the head-on collision.
The injuries of both drivers were so severe that they were transported to hospitals in Collin County by air ambulance. Alvarez, who was a court clerk with the City of Prosper, was later pronounced dead.
Firefighter Lawley, who was off-duty when the crash happened, remains hospitalized. Plano fire officials say Lawley was on his way to a second job when the two vehicles collided.
Anna police are searching for witnesses to the crash, apparently no one stopped to help when the incident happened.
