Collin County City Cracking Down On Water Restriction Violators
COLLIN COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - It was just this weekend that the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) implemented Stage 3 water restrictions, meaning residents and businesses must limit watering by sprinkler to once every seven days and only on trash day.
Just four days after the rules went into effect one NTMWD member city is making it clear that those who don't comply will face the consequences.
In the City of Frisco, anyone caught breaking the Stage 3 restrictions will not only have a $25 fee added to their water bill, but their sprinkler system will be immediately disconnected. And to alert the violator, and everyone else, a red sign will be placed in the violator's yard.
In order to have the outdoor watering system turned back on the violator will have to contact Frisco Public Works.
As for the fee for first-time violators – if the resident completes a free irrigation check-up the fee may be waived.
In addition to having their sprinkler system disconnected, anyone violating the restrictions a second time will have a $50 administrative fee added to their water bill. Third-time offenders get a $75 fee and citation.
Last year the City of Frisco issued some 3,500 watering violations. According to Gary Hartwell, the Director of Public Works, sprinkler systems are the city's biggest water wasters.
The North Texas Municipal Water District provides services to the cities of Allen, Farmersville, Forney, Frisco, Garland, McKinney, Mesquite, Richardson, Plano, Princeton, Rockwall, Royse City and Wylie.
