Colleyville Mom Finds Enlightenment After Job Loss

COLLEYVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) - Looking for a job? You might want to stop after reading this story about a working North Texas mother who was recently laid off. From that tough situation came an opportunity to improve upon herself and her family life. Now, as it turns out, losing her job could be the best thing that's ever happened to her.

One year ago, Jennifer Hurley of Colleyville was laid off from Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway. Losing an income has meant that her family is scraping by this holiday season. "We are having to learn, can't just spend money on whatever," she said.

But after losing her job, instead of rushing back into the workforce, the 40-year-old mother started to invest in herself. "I didn't know what I really wanted," Hurley said. "I knew a few things I was good at, but I didn't know how to put them into words."

So, for a few months now, Hurley has been working with author and career coach Joel Boggess. "A lot of women are starting to re-evaluate things with their life," Boggess said, "and they want to get in touch with who they really are."

Boggess recently wrote a book called "One Woman's Journey to the Work She Loves." It's based on the true story of an East Texas mother who went from being a school teacher to beginning her own ministry. Boggess hopes that the book's story will inspire other women to take a leap of faith.

"Companies are hungry for people who have clarity on their talents, on their passions and on their desire to contribute," Boggess explained.

Boggess works with clients all across the country. One session can cost anywhere between $500 to a few thousand dollars. Click here for more information on career coaching.

Recently, Boggess has noticed a spike in the number of women needing his help. And, he said, his biggest advice to to wait before jumping into that next job. If you need something to make ends meet, get a job, but make sure that you give yourself enough time to figure out what it is that you really want to do with your life.

"It has totally enlightened me on what I'm interested in now," Hurley said. And, she added, it has also made her a better mother and wife.

So what is Hurley's passion? She now wants to work with other girls and inspire them to discover their own passions.
